When you play 7 card stud you’ll find that the stud rules are fairly simple and straight forward. Stud rules are by creation simple rules so that the strategy of the game can be enjoyed. How you play 7 card stud is the trick. Every bet, look or physical mannerism may give away part of the hand that you are developing. This means that stud rules need to be understood so you will be able to control the signals that you may be unintentionally giving off when you bet.

Simple stud rules

Unlike many other poker games, you will ultimately end up with seven cards in front of you when you play7 card stud. This is unless you “fold” your hand before the end of that particular “hand.” You “fold your hand when you do not feel that you can beat the best hand on the table. In any event when you play7 card stud, each player at the table will receive two cards facing down and one card facing up to begin the game. Unless a player “folds their cards at some point during the “hand” each player receives another card face up after a bet is made. As per stud rules the last card dealt is dealt face down. You will now have seven cards in front of you; three cards face down and four faces up. You now need to make the best hand out of those seven cards only using five of them. When you play7 card stud you never show the face down cards until the very end of the “hand” when everybody that has not “folded” their cards shows all of their cards face up.

Betting stud rules

When you play7 card stud to begin the hand, each player needs to place an ante onto the middle of the table to signify that they would like to play that hand. After the ante has been placed by all that want to play 7 card stud the dealer will begin dealing cards to each player one each until there are two cards face down and one face up in front of each player. The player with the lowest value card face up on the table makes the first bet. Proceeding to the left, each player can; match that bet, fold their cards by turning the face up card(s) face down or raise the bet. As per stud rules, if a raise occurs, the betting continues in order with each player meeting the total bet made or folding. When meeting the total bet made the person seated just before the person who raised the bet must wait their turn to meet the raised bet.

Declaring your hand when you play7 card stud

According to stud rules, after the seven cards have been dealt out with a final bet after the seventh card all players turn their cards face up to declare their best hand. If you declare a lesser hand then actually exists in your hand, the stud rules require you to continue to use that declared hand and forego the better hand.

Quietly telling when you play7 card stud

In some instances when you play 7 card stud, you may notice that another person makes a physical movement when they ultimately have a good or bad hand. As per stud rules, this is called a “tell.” You should watch yourself for a tell that, in some instances, you are not even aware that you are making.
